Camping outside of Zion
It rains suddenly and Sam and I hurry to the tent.
Our carefully laid plans to keep sand out fall apart in the rush to keep equipment dry
I forget the golden rule – no food inside
and learn that on top of attracting animals there’s a danger of spilling beans on your pillow and several other things along the way.
After the brief rain, I step outside to finish preparing for the night
The tent glows invitingly
Our first home away from home
I sleep well without a sleeping pad in the soft sand
The walls of Zion tower over us.
Driving in awe
with eyes and mouths open
We stop to get coffee
I feel unprepared to take in what lies ahead
